We are converting our legacy conversion groups from C to ABAP. How do we convert our legacy asphalt conversion groups?

For SAP legacy template conversion groups for crude oil and products, an automated conversion tool from C to ABAP is available within the PMC.

This is not the case for asphalt legacy conversion groups:

Historically, SAP delivered exactly three asphalt conversion group examples, SAP template conversion groups ASPA (API gravity, 60 °F base temperature), ASPR (relative density, 60 °F base temperature) and ASPD (absolute density, 15 °C base temperature). Customers could activate any of these at their own risk. Technically, an example ABAP function module – based on superseded measurement standard ASTM D4311-1996 – was delivered by SAP for these conversion groups. Customers had to copy, test and release this ABAP function at their own risk. Also, as defined by  ASTM D4311-1996, a hybrid ASTM D1250-80 C code base density calculation was required for ASPA, ASPR and ASPD. Later, SAP extended this concept to the ASTM D1250-04 C-codes (template conversion groups A15D, A60A, A60R):

  • QuantityWare BCS does not support ASTM D4311-1996 with the hybrid approach defined therein. This approach was withdrawn by ASTM with ASTM D4311-2004.
  • QuantityWare BCS supports ASTM D4311-2004, ASTM D4311-2009, ASTM D4311-2015 and ASTM D4311-2021 for asphalt. For emulsified asphalt (which is not supported by ASTM D4311), QuantityWare BCS also provides a solution.

Thus, if you attempt to migrate your legacy (hybrid C and/or ABAP) asphalt implementations to QuantityWare BCS, differences in calculation results will most likely occur, as explained above.

  • For ASPA type legacy conversion groups, QuantityWare recommends to manually change the configuration – if you need to keep the technical name identical – to that of template conversion group Q507.
  • For ASPR type legacy conversion groups, QuantityWare recommends to manually change the configuration – if you need to keep the technical name identical – to that of template conversion group Q508.
  • For ASPD type legacy conversion groups, QuantityWare recommends to manually change the configuration – if you need to keep the technical name identical – to that of template conversion group Q505.
