How is “National / Simple” pricing determined?

Maximum Support – Minimum Hurdle

Sometimes prospective customers ask us why is there such a large “step” in our pricing matrix between the “National / Simple” and “National / Standard” positions. As our prices are openly available on our website,  we have decided to publish this question and its answer in a public text as well.

SAP Oil, Gas, and Energy customers have always had to use a third party solution for bulk goods quantity conversion calculations.

We have always aimed to serve the entire industry with our solution, thus  we decided to define our lowest licensing scale “National / Simple” with a 40% discount of the internally calculated National/Simple price of 12.800€. This allows the smallest SAP Oil, Gas, and Energy users and those with the most simple usage an easy and inexpensive path to migrate away from the use of C-routines and all the issues associated therewith, to an enterprise-grade, SAP-certified integration, solution.

“C-routines”?

Before the advent of QuantityWare, SAP Oil, Gas and Energy customers primarily used “C-routines” which supported the most commonly-used calculations within the API MPMS Chapter 11.1 (also known as “ASTM D1250-80”). These routines were written by industry experts on behalf of, and contracted by, the API, to provide the industry with a general tool predominantly used on PCs and e.g. as the basis for measurement systems firmware implementations. The “C-routines”  were thus never well-suited for interfacing with SAP ERP systems. After many years’ experience with SAP in helping the industry try to cope with major compatibility, support, transparency and security issues, we at QuantityWare set out to provide an SAP-Integrated and SAP-Certified answer to the various issues; to this end, we launched our  Bulk Calculations Solution (BCS) in 2006.

As the SAP Oil & Gas solution had been available since 1995, there were (and still are) a considerable number of SAP-customers that used the “API C-routines”; for this reason we decided to (as described above) provide an inexpensive “first step” solution for the existing “small customer” base. Our pricing scale is clearly-defined and the benefits of our solution are well documented and summarized as follows:

  • Security
  • Transparency
  • Support
  • Service
  • Documentation
  • Maintenance
  • Continuous development
  • Additional SAP-integrated functionality
  • Unique conversion calculation provision of a wide range of products and standards that are not supported by the “API C-routines”
